Joshua's 1997 WS6 Trans Am

Welcome to my website dedicated to my T/A.

Thanks for visiting my corner of the internet! I would like to share with you a little bit about me and my car.

I am the proud owner of a 1997 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6. It is powered by the LT1 350ci V8. The power is routed to the rear wheels via a Borg Warner T-56 six speed transmission. It has power everything, leather seats with lumbar support, 500 watt 10 speaker Monsoon sound system, and t-tops. To most people the WS6 is known as the "Ram Air" due to the functional hood scoopes that force feeds cold air into the engine.

Here is what the WS6 package consists of:

-Ram Air hood and air intake (like that of the Firehawk)
-Freer flowing exhaust system
-Higher rate front springs (360 lbs/in)
-Variable rate rear springs (130-180 lbs/in)
-Stiffer front and rear shocks
-Harder bushings
-Larger diameter front anti-sway bar (32mm)
-Increased cooling
-17 inch wheels with 275/40ZR/17 tires
2,827 WS6 Trans Am coupes were made in 1997.

I purchased my car in May of 2001, exactly one week before my eighteenth birthday. This is my second car, my first car was a 1995 3.4L V6 Firebird 5spd. coupe. I loved my V6, even though it only had 160hp. It was sold the same day I got my T/A.

Here are the specs on the 1997 WS6 T/A:

Body type: 2-door, 4-passenger
Drivetrain: Front engine, rear wheel drive
Engine: 90 degree 5.7-liter
V-8, OHV, 2 valves/cylinder
Horsepower, hp @ rpm: 305 @ 5400
Torque, lb-ft @ rpm: 335 @ 3200
Transmission: 6-speed manual
Wheelbase, in./mm: 101.1/2568
Base curb weight, lb: 3477
Brakes: Vented disks/disks, ABS
Acceleration, 0-60 mph, sec: 5.7
Quarter mile, sec/mph: 14.0/101.9
Braking, 60-0 mph, ft: 124
Slalom, 600-ft, mph: 65.2
Skidpad, 200-ft, lateral g: 0.88

These performance numbers are taken from Motor Trend, and are a little conservative. The car is capable of high to mid 13 second quarter-miles.

Cars have always been apart of my life. My father is in the used car business, so I have been exposed to many different types of automobiles. My father's first car was a 1968 Camaro Z/28. It had a 302ci V8 and a Muncie 4spd transmission. My Mother's first car was a Pontiac Catalina Venutra. Her dad is the original owner of a 1967 Pontiac GTO. As you can tell, we are a GM family. Naturally, when it came time for me to get a car, I really had my choices narrowed down: Camaro, Corvette, or Firebird. My dreamcar has always been a Vette, but it is hard to insure one for a teenager. Getting a V8 f-body insured for me would be too costly at that point in time, so I was pleased with my V6 Bird. I kept that car spotless. It was dark green with tan interior and power everything. It was fun to drive with it being a five speed, but I was still waiting for the day I could upgrade to a V8. My parents paid for that car so I was patient. I agreed to make all the payments on my T/A. I think it makes me appreciate it more.

My other hobbies include watching baseball, basketball, hockey, and football. I'm a huge Maverick fan, but I like all of the DFW teams. I currently go to a community college full time, and have a job to make my car payments. I plan on majoring in history. I have lived in Irving Texas my whole life. Its, uh, nice... I live with my parents and brother. My brother goes to Texas Christian University. I plan on transfering there in the future. Well, thanks for reading my short bio, and do check out the pictures.
